Privacy policy

This policy explains which personal data FanFlash processes when you use the app or this website, why we do it and what rights you have. We have kept it as short as the facts allow.

Last updated: 8 October 2026

In short

  • You can use FanFlash without an account. We never ask for your name.
  • We don't sell your data.
  • You can delete your data yourself in the app at any time.

This website

getfanflash.com is a static website. It sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties: fonts and images come from our own server. If you switch the language, your browser saves the choice in its local storage. It never leaves your device.

To deliver the pages, our server has to process your IP address. We keep no access logs for the website. Only when an error occurs does the server log it together with the IP address, and these error logs are deleted after 14 days.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in running the website securely.

Using the app without an account

When you open FanFlash for the first time, the app creates an anonymous guest profile for this installation. We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number. We store:

We use this to provide the app in your language, keep it running securely, detect abuse and count how many people use FanFlash each day. These counts are plain totals and say nothing about individual people.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the app) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (security and an overview of usage).

Protection against abuse

To make sure requests really come from the genuine FanFlash app, the app proves that it is authentic once, when the guest profile is created. It uses Google's Firebase App Check service, which relies on Play Integrity on Android and on Apple's App Attest or DeviceCheck on iOS. Google and Apple receive technical information about the app and the device for this. Our server only checks the confirmation it gets back and receives no device data.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in protecting FanFlash from automated misuse.

Favourites and notification settings

When you follow teams or leagues, switch on the bell for a match or choose which events you want to hear about, we store these settings with your profile. That's how FanFlash can show your matches and send the right notifications. Bells for individual matches are deleted seven days after the final whistle.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Push notifications

Push notifications only work if you allow them on your device. We then store the push token that Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging assigns to your installation, together with your app language. Notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging and, on iPhone, also through Apple's push service. They contain match events such as goals, cards or the final score, nothing personal.

You can turn notifications off at any time in the app under Settings › Notifications or in your device settings. When you sign out or delete your data, we remove the push token.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Account (optional)

With an account, you have your favourites on all your devices. You can sign in with your email address, with Apple or with Google, and link several of these to one account. There is no password.

For each sign-in method linked to your account, we store the user ID from Apple or Google or your email address, your confirmed email address, and when you linked the method and last used it. We don't store your name or profile picture.

When you sign in with Apple or Google, you use their sign-in service. Apple and Google process your data for this under their own responsibility, and their privacy policies apply: Apple, Google.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Search

Searches are sent to our server so it can find matching teams, leagues and players. We don't save search terms in your profile, but like every request they can appear in our server logs for up to 14 days (see below). The app keeps your last 8 searches on your device only, and you can clear them in the search.

Server logs

When the app talks to our server, the server logs the IP address, the time, the requested address (which can include a search term), the status code and the app version. We need these logs to fix errors and fend off attacks, and we delete them after 14 days. To prevent abuse, we also count requests per IP address. These counters exist only in memory and expire after one hour at the latest.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a stable and secure service.

Football data

Scores, line-ups, statistics and images come from a sports data provider. We don't pass any data about you to this provider. The app loads all images, including club crests and player photos, from our own server.

Recipients

Google and Apple may also process data in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has adopted an adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). We don't pass data to anyone else unless we are legally required to.

How long we keep data

Data on your device

The app keeps its access key in your device's secure storage (Keychain on iPhone, Keystore on Android). It also saves your theme, language, recent searches and cached images such as club crests. All of this is strictly necessary for the app to work the way you expect (Section 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG) and stays on your device. Uninstalling the app removes it.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR) and data portability (Art. 20 GDPR). To exercise these rights or your right to object (see below), write to info@getfanflash.com. You can also delete your data yourself in the app at any time, see Delete account.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

FanFlash makes no decisions based solely on automated processing that produce legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affect you (Art. 22 GDPR). You are not legally or contractually obliged to provide any data: without an account you just can't take your favourites to other devices, and without push permission you won't get notifications.

Your right to object

Where we process your data on the basis of our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you have the right to object to this processing at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21(1) GDPR). We will then stop processing the data, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims. An email to info@getfanflash.com is enough.

Changes

If FanFlash changes in a way that affects your data, we will update this policy. The current version is always available at getfanflash.com/privacy.

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

Push-Benachrichtigungen

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

Konto (freiwillig)

Rechtsgrundlage: Art. 6 Abs. 1 lit. b DSGVO.

Suche
